The United Nations records 17 January 2026 as the entry-into-force date of the agreement on marine biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction, often called the BBNJ or high-seas agreement. It was adopted on 19 June 2023.
The agreement addresses marine genetic resources, area-based management tools including protected areas, environmental impact assessments, and capacity-building and technology transfer. Entry into force establishes a legal milestone; it does not mean every intended protection is already in place.

The date is the treaty milestone, not the publication date of this continuously updated UN overview. The ocean photograph is contextual.
A three-judge Bench asked the Centre once more to consider accommodating students already in Class 6, framing the suggestion as a matter of student and family comfort rather than a ruling on the policy's validity.
A two-judge Bench of the Supreme Court has held that sameness of duties is no longer sufficient to claim pay parity without parity of experience, qualifications and source of recruitment, and upheld a higher pay scale for promoted Kerala teachers.
