Editorial standards

The principles guiding our reporting, interpretation and use of evidence.

Evidence before certainty

Attribute factual claims to identifiable sources. Distinguish a source’s statement from independently established facts. State unresolved contradictions and the limits of the available evidence. An authentic document can contain an inaccurate claim.

News, analysis and opinion

News should separate what happened, what participants claim and what remains unknown. Analysis should explain its reasoning. Opinion should disclose its judgments and factual premises. Agreement with a person or institution must never be a condition of accurate quotation.

The Record

Keep the original material separate from transcripts, translations, excerpts and editorial interpretation. Show event time, publication time and capture time separately. Never describe a linked page as a preserved original when no capture is held.

AI and editorial responsibility

The newsroom uses AI for discovery, research, drafting and preparation checks. These checks are not proof that every claim is true. Eligible news may be released automatically under an editor-authorised policy after evidence, media and release checks. Automatic release is not a claim that a person reviewed each article. The newsroom retains the exact revision and its release decision; corrections and work outside that policy remain editorial decisions. Source photography and generated conceptual imagery have separate provenance records; generated imagery must never stand in for documentary evidence of a real event. Social distribution is not connected.

Fairness and independence

Apply the same evidential tests across allegiances. Seek a meaningful response to material criticism. Disclose relevant conflicts. Independence does not require treating unequal evidence as equal. The detailed editorial charter, including the place of Dharma, remains open for discussion.

Corrections

Correct material errors visibly with a dated explanation. Preserve the previous version internally and propagate the correction to connected channels. A changed headline or social caption must not hide a substantive correction.
